Dr. Wiet's NIH/NIDCD-funded research focuses on the application of high-performance computing to the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Specifically, his interest centers on the development of a simulation environment for teaching specific surgical techniques in otolaryngology. He was awarded a National Institute of Health (NIH) R-21 preliminary grant to develop a surgical simulator for temporal bone surgery and recently was awarded a $1.6 million RO-1 grant from the NIH to continue developing the system over the next five years.
