Karen Calhoun, MD

Dr. Calhoun is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, Division of Sinus and Allergy. She is one of the top otolaryngic allergists in the nation. She is the former president of the American Society of Geriatric Otolaryngology, former vice-president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, former president of the Society of University Otolaryngologists, and one of the leading innovators in improving allergy therapy in the field of otolaryngology. She is also one of the nation's leading researchers in allergy, having published over 100 articles in the field of Otolaryngology. She is recognized as one of the nation's top physicians.

Dr. Calhoun graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and completed her residency and fellowship training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She is board certified in Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and is a fellow of the American Rhinologic Society, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.

Dr. Calhoun's clinical expertise includes all aspects of allergic disease affecting the upper airway, including nasal obstruction, runny nose, hay-fever, post-nasal drip, inhalant and food allergies, urticaria (hives), angioedema and asthma. She offers immunotherapy both in the traditional allergy shot, and in the newer under-the-tongue drops (sublingual immunotherapy or SLIT).
