Stephen P. Smith, Jr., MD is the Director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Ohio State University Medical Center, and the Medical Director of Smith Facial Plastics in Gahanna, Ohio. He also ranks as Assistant Professor with the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, perennially ranked amongst the nation’s premiere departments by US News & World Report.
Dr. Smith is a fourth-generation central Ohio surgeon. After graduating from The Columbus Academy, he studied Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. During his time in Philadelphia, Dr. Smith focused his time studying the concepts and practice of design, and received a minor in Art History. Concurrently, he represented the university as a NCAA Division I varsity wrestler. Dr. Smith graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2001, and served as Chapter President of the AOA Medical Honor Society. Following a one-year surgical internship at Mt. Carmel Health in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Smith completed an Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at The Ohio State University College of Medicine where he received the Medical Director's Citizenship Award. During residency, with his artistic background, Dr. Smith was drawn to a career in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. In pursuit of these interests, Dr. Smith completed a fellowship of The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Latham, NY, with Edwin F. Williams, III, MD, an international leader in the field.
Dr. Smith has published articles, chapters, and presented research nationally relating to plastic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck. He plans to continue to advance the field of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery throughout his career with further publications, and educational efforts.
